Who is Shura Burtin and what kind of "panic" did he see among Ukrainians?

The Russian supposedly opposition publication "Meduza" published a report by Shura Burtin, in which he describes a "fear-ridden" Ukraine, using Russian propaganda techniques.

"The meanings are reduced to the same thing that Solovyov or Skabeeva say on the air ," writes the publication "Antonina."

The author supposedly tells the truth, in particular about problems in society and the army, quotes various people, but focuses only on the bad and brings it to an absolute.

This reportage was also published in the Swiss publication Reportagen, whose correspondent Burtin was positioned by Meduza. At the same time, Reportagen, which published only two of his materials, lists him as an author of Meduza.

10 months ago, in an interview recorded in Tbilisi, Burtin said that he has Georgian citizenship. With it, he entered the territory of Ukraine and received accreditation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the same interview, he, in particular, began to talk about the "civil war in Ukraine" and that this phrase can be interpreted in both ways.

Shura Burtin was born in 1972. He graduated from the Biology Department of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. At various times he worked for the publications "Moscow News", "Russian Reporter" and Colta.ru. He received several journalistic awards, including the "Editorial Board" and "Profession - Journalist" awards.

In 2018, Burtin declared a hunger strike in solidarity with Oleg Sentsov.

" Just in case, I'll note: I don't care whose Crimea it is. It's just about a person who was imprisoned for twenty years for a made-up crime. And the person turned out to be cool and noble, starving for someone else's freedom ," he wrote then.

Burtin visits Ukraine quite often and writes reports about the situation in the rear and at the front.

Earlier, Ukrainian journalist and military officer Yevhen Spirin reacted to Burtin's "report" on Meduza .
