The first Prime Minister of Ukraine, Vitold Fokin, who passed away on March 20 at the age of 92, had a busy political and public life. In particular, he was remembered for his scandalous statements and being imprisoned at the Myrotvorets base at the end of his life.
This is reported by "Apostrophe", referring to public information about the politician.
Scandals related to Vitold Fokin's statements
Among other things, after being appointed to the Trilateral Contact Group for a peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, he stated that "Russia was forced to take Crimea because the Americans would have taken it." Journalists reported that he got a place in the TCG thanks to his granddaughter Maria, who is friends with the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak.
He also made a statement regarding the war with the Russian Federation in Donbas. On September 29, 2020, during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on state construction, he said that he "does not see any confirmation that there is a war between Ukraine and Russia there." At the same time, he said that "local elections should be held in Donbas, a general amnesty should be declared, because it "demoralizes the enemy." In response, the head of the OP Yermak said that the statement was worthy of his removal from his position in the Trilateral Contact Group. The then Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov called for Fokin to be sent "into retirement."
Subsequently, Fokin publicly stated that there was a need to assign a special status to both the occupied part of Ukraine and the entire territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On August 31, 2020, information about Fokin was added to the database of the Ukrainian volunteer site "Myrotvorets". The reasons were: conscious participation in anti-Ukrainian propaganda activities aimed at destabilizing socio-political life in Ukraine, denial of Russian aggression, manipulation of socially significant information, participation in attempts to legalize Russian-terrorist formations in the occupied part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Interesting facts about politics
It is worth noting that Fokin is known as a translator. He made a verse translation of A. S. Pushkin's poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila" into Ukrainian. The work was published by the Kharkov publishing house "Folio".
In addition, he was among the TOP 100 longest-lived living heads of state.
