MMA fighter McGregor's political ambitions have baffled a diplomat

Former head of the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States Valeriy Chaly (2015-2019) expressed surprise at the political ambitions of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Conor McGregor, who stated that he intends to become the next president of Ireland.

The diplomat wrote about this on Facebook.

He said he did not understand why it was mostly boxing or mixed martial arts champions or, in extreme cases, football players who applied for the positions of heads of state.

"Is it just because they are more publicly promoted or have more money? Then it would be logical to see more representatives of basketball or tennis. I'm not talking about chess. Apparently, in this new world, no one needs the ability to think strategically anymore...", Chaly said.

Earlier, MMA fighter McGregor wrote on Instagram that he wants to become the next president of Ireland, where elections are due to be held by November 11, 2025. If elected president, he promised to put the EU's migration pact to a national vote.

The other day, the US president called McGregor "one of his favorite Irishmen."

As a reminder, Ukrainian boxer Usyk defended his scientific dissertation and became a Doctor of Philosophy in the field of law .
