Actress raises alarm over solitary confinement for children at Kharkiv school

Ukrainian actress, TV presenter and public figure Daria Malakhova, daughter of the founder of the Kyiv Drama Theater in Podil, Vitaliy Malakhov, shared her indignation at the news that Ukrainian schools are providing for "solidarity cells for children."

This is stated in the actress's post on Facebook.

She noted that it turns out that one of the schools in Kharkiv has a correctional facility for children in case of violations. And this is against the backdrop of Ukraine's struggle for freedom, the defense of the country from the enemy, from bullying, authoritarianism, Soviet values, coercion, the devaluation of human life, and the lack of respect for the person as such.

"There is a school in Kharkiv that has a punishment cell. Officially. In documents. On the website. In 2025. A punishment cell. In a school. Not a prison. Not in a colony. Not in a concentration camp. But in an educational institution for children. Everyone knows about it. In this school, a child can be sent to a punishment cell if someone "doesn't like" their behavior. Or if it seems that their parents will be able to pay for correctional labor. And this seems to be happening not for the first time," Malakhova wrote.

She reported that she had spoken to the mother of a successful, athletic, academically accomplished girl who was facing detention for hitting another girl while playing dodgeball. She was accused of intentional acts.

"Even if it were difficult, conflicting, uncomfortable - it doesn't change anything. No child in Ukraine in 2025 should end up in a punishment cell. And should not study in a school where this is even possible. This is not about one child. And not about one school. This is about us. About our illness. About how we can simultaneously fight for freedom - and keep children in punishment cells. We cannot demand dignity from the outside - if we don't create it from the inside. I don't know how much we will imitate educational processes, but I know for sure that most Ukrainian educational institutions are powerlessly trying to find the keys to modern children and continue the traditions of the Soviet authoritarian education system...", the artist added.

As "Apostrophe" previously wrote, volunteer and advisor to the First Deputy Minister of Defense Dana Yarova spoke about a conflict with her child's tutor over an "illegal" video.
