Baltic states feel threatened by Russia: the intelligence report

The State Security Service (SGB) of Latvia considers Russia's non-military actions a threat to their country, as was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

The threat assessment was indicated in the annual report for 2020, which was published on March 22. The document states that the actions of the Russian Federation are aimed at undermining the credibility of democratic principles and the legitimacy of the Latvian authorities. This also applies to other countries -member-states of NATO and the European Union.

The Latvian SGB notes that Russia focuses mainly on young people, luring them into the bosom of the "Russian world". In addition, Latvian youth are lured to study at Russian universities.

The report has concluded that Russia posed a therious threat to the Latvian national security throughout the last year.

According to Apostrophe, the Intelligence Services of the two Baltic States have published annual reports on the state of international security and existing threats, which emphasize the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
