The government of Canada has banned the national airlines from entering the airspace of Crimean, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions according to the website of the Government of Canada.
“Exercise a high degree of caution in Ukraine due to the prevalence of crimes opportunity. Avoid all travel to Crimea, including transiting through the airports in Sevastopol and Simferopol. Avoid all travel to the NGCA and the area within 20 km from the contact line inside the Government Controlled Areas (GCA) of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, due to armed conflict and occasional bombings in the area. Avoid non-essential travel to the GCA of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts (except the area within 20 km from the contact line where we advise against all travel) due to the remnants of armed conflicts, such as uncleared minefields,” the Canadian government has stated.
The Canadian authorities stressed that Canada does not recognize Russian control over Crimea. Their ability to provide consular assistance to Canadians in Crimea and non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts is extremely limited. Therefore, the passenger flights were suspended amid the information regarding strengthening the Russian military presence on the Ukrainian border.
