American Maria Branias Morera is the oldest person in the world. On March 4, she celebrated her birthday, and the footage of the celebration appeared on social media.
Longevity can bring not only the status of "the world's oldest person" but also a large number of health problems. However, this aspect does not concern Maria in any way. Despite her age, the woman notes that she is in fairly good health. This fact surprises doctors, who point out that she is practically healthy.
In particular, Manel Esteller, a doctor at the Leukemia Research Institute and professor of genetics at the University of Barcelona, notes that Maria does not have many of the problems that most often occur in the elderly, commenting on the following:
"She has a very clear head. She remembers episodes from her life when she was just four years old with amazing clarity, and she has no cardiovascular disease, which is typical for the elderly. The only things she has are problems with mobility and hearing."
Later, Maria revealed her secret, saying that "longevity is luck. Luck and good genetics".
It is known that Maria Branias Morera was born in San Francisco, but spent her entire life in Catalonia. Now Maria spends her time in a nursing home. During her lifetime, the woman witnessed such historical events as two world wars, the Spanish Civil War, and the coronavirus pandemic.
