The United States and the European Union have imposed sanctions on Iran, which has been manufacturing and transferring attack drones to Russia for almost two and a half years of the Russian-Ukrainian war - the restrictions will affect individuals and legal entities.
This was reported by Apostrophe with reference to the website of the U.S. Department of State.
"The United States is sanctioning four Iranian entities and one Iranian individual connected with the development, manufacture, and proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which the Iranian regime provides to Russia and militant proxies and partners to prolong conflict and destabilize the region," said Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Matthew Miller.
The sanctions are to be imposed on four organizations associated with Rayan Roshd Afzar, which was previously included in the US sanctions list, as well as on the Head of the Iran Aviation Industries Organization, a subsidiary of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. Matthew Miller said that these sanctions were agreed upon and imposed simultaneously with the European Union's sanctions.
"We applaud the first use of the EU’s new sanctions authority targeting Iranian destabilizing behavior and support for terrorism in the Middle East," he said.
It is worth noting that, in addition to the Russians, militants in the Middle East have received drones.
Earlier, Apostrophe wrote that the EU is considering a ban on re-export of Russian LNG from its ports.
