Greenpeace announced a threat to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

After the drone attack, the arch over the Chornobyl NPP no longer functions as it used to. The fire damaged 50% of the northern roof, as well as the southern roof and side walls of the power plant.

This was stated by Jan Vande Putte, a nuclear energy specialist at Greenpeace Ukraine.

According to him, the roof cladding material and critical structures, including the crane system, have been seriously damaged. There is also a threat of corrosion due to snow and water getting under the Chornobyl NPP arch. As a result, the structure is no longer functioning according to the design and license. The new safe confinement may have to be replaced.

Jan Vande Putte says that based on the initial analysis, the future of the entire project is "uncertain at best."

" Due to the high level of radiation above the sarcophagus, it is very possible that the entire Chernobyl NSC will have to be moved by rail back to where it was built before repairs can be carried out, which will cost a huge amount of money ," the expert said.

Greenpeace asked former military experts from McKenzie Intelligence Services to conduct an analysis of the attack on the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. The study found that the strike was carried out by a Russian Geran-2 drone, which is used exclusively by the Russian military. Analysts believe that this drone was likely pre-programmed to carry out the attack on the Chornobyl nuclear power plant on the night of February 14, 2025 .
