Fake insurance certificates found on Russian tankers from the "shadow fleet"

Russian tankers from the "shadow fleet" used false insurance certificates to pass through NATO waters in the Baltic Sea.

This was announced on Facebook by Vladyslav Vlasyuk, advisor to the President of Ukraine on sanctions issues.

Citing the Danwatch and NRK investigations, he notes:

"Russian tankers from the 'shadow fleet' used fake insurance certificates to pass through NATO waters in the Baltic Sea."

It notes that at least 76 vessels received such documents from the shell company Ro Marine, which posed as Norwegian but belonged to Russian Andrey Mochalin.

"The company was not operating, there was only one Bulgarian on staff. The certificates were based on a fake FSA license. The Norwegian Shipowners' Association has repeatedly demanded that Ro Marine remove the false address data," Vlasyuk explains, adding: " In fact, this is just the beginning."

As a reminder, earlier, the Follow the Money investigation reported that Russia had purchased over 200 tankers from Western shipowners for $6 billion, which joined its "shadow fleet."
