NATO Secretary General answers questions about peacekeepers and "red lines" in Ukraine's negotiations with Russia

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the Alliance has no red lines in negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, because it is not participating in these negotiations.

He said this in an interview with NV.

Rutte noted that in the negotiations, "the ball is clearly in Russia's court now."

" I think NATO does not have its own red lines because we are not part of this process. But, of course, in general, we want Ukraine to be a proud sovereign state that is moving forward. This is what we all want. It should be a just and lasting peace. Putin should never try to do this again ," the Secretary General of the Alliance said.

He added that he wants Ukrainians to live in safety and not worry at night that their house might be attacked by a drone.

Regarding sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, Rutte believes that it is still too early to talk about it.

" When we get to a peace agreement or a ceasefire, we have to look at how best to support Ukraine to prevent another attack from Russia. The first level is to ensure that the Ukrainian armed forces are in the best possible position after the ceasefire or the peace agreement. Then we have the French and the British, who, together with the Coalition of the Willing, are looking at ways to provide security guarantees. We have proposals from the Italians, who are going in a slightly different direction, but with the same goal ," he said.

In Rutte's opinion, it is best to wait until peace is concluded.

" In the meantime, you need to continue to think and develop all these different ideas so that you are ready when a peace agreement is concluded or a ceasefire is reached, and so that you can apply them, " the NATO Secretary General said.

Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski explained why his country does not intend to send its peacekeepers to Ukraine.
