In Warsaw, people took to the streets to protest the abortion ban

On Thursday, January 28, women's protests broke out with renewed vigor after the Polish Constitutional Court ruled to harshen the abortion law. The new law officially entered into force on January 27, as was reported by Wyborcza.

Most of the participants, including young people and many men, gathered under the Constitutional Court building and spilled red paint on the sidewalk and shoes of the police. People also ‘attacked’ the building with the snowballs.

"The waters broke. The birth of the revolution has started," one of the banners read.

Since 1993, Polish residents could terminate their pregnancy only in cases of rape, incest, and a threat to the mother's life. The new decree prohibits abortion even if the fetus has severe defects. 98% of surgeries in Poland were performed for this reason.

The Constitutional Court of Poland decided to ban abortions on October 22. However, the decision had to be postponed due to mass protests in the country. Despite quarantine restrictions, over 400 thousand people took to the streets.
