Great disaster: train bound for Ukraine crashes in the Czech Republic, killing 4 people and injuring 23

Two trains collided in the Czech Republic on the night of June 6. A head-on collision occurred between a passenger train heading to Ukraine and a freight train, resulting in the complete destruction of the first passenger car. There are reports of dead and injured.

It is noted that the passenger train RegioJet 1021, heading to Ukraine, to the city of Chop, collided with a freight train ČD Cargo, which was moving in the opposite direction - the collision was recorded at about 11p.m.

Martin Kavka, a spokesperson for the Railway Administration's firefighters, initially reported two dead and dozens of injured, some of whom were in serious condition. However, an hour later, the spokeswoman for the Pardubice Rescue Service, Jelena Kisiala, indicated that the number of victims of the head-on collision had increased to four.

There are children among the dozens of victims. The entire rescue system, including helicopters, was involved in the rescue operation. Vendula Horakova, a spokeswoman for the Pardubice fire department, said:

"Thirty-six units of professional and volunteer firefighters have arrived at the scene."

According to firefighters, about 300 people were traveling on the RegioJet express. The first car completely destroyed by the impact. The freight train consisted of 21 cars and was more than half a kilometer long.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala posted the following message on his X social media page about the situation:

"The collision of two trains is a great misfortune. We are all thinking about the victims and the injured. I express my sincere condolences to all the survivors."
