Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which both parties underscored their desire to further expand mutually beneficial Russian-Turkish ties in various fields, prioritizing the implementation of major joint energy projects.

The Presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey reviewed prospects for expanded cooperation in the field of containing the spread of the coronavirus, including possible supplies of Russian vaccines to Turkey and the organization of their production there. Putin appealed the proposal to organize the supply and production of Russian vaccines in Turkey.

The Presidents has also touched upon the situation around Nagorno Karabakh. They discussed the context of implementing agreements, formalized in the statements of Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021. According to the statement, this implies coordinated Russian-Turkish actions in the interests of the region’s socio-economic development.

They expressed satisfaction in connection with launching the work of the Joint Russian-Turkish Centre for Monitoring the Ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh,” the statement reads.

The parties also addressed the Syrian peace settlement and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to an uncompromising struggle against international terrorist groups entrenched in Syria in the context of Russian and Turkish efforts to stabilise the situation in Idlib Governorate. They voiced their intention to continue facilitating the intra-Syrian political process, including within the Astana format.

The Presidents also noted the importance of establishing, with UN support, interim institutions of state authority in Libya to ensure long-term normalization in the country.

In the end, Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the Turkish leader in connection with the recent tragic death of 13 citizens of the Republic of Turkey in Iran. The sides agreed to maintain further contacts.
