The US closed its consulate in Yekaterinburg after being designated as an "unfriendly country”

The U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg stopped working after the Russian government, in accordance with the decree of President Vladimir Putin, prepared a list of "unfriendly countries" that included the United States.

In this regard, Consul General Amy Storrow published a farewell address on the consulate's Facebook page.

The U.S. diplomat recalled that the U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg opened in 1994 and has been providing visaservices for U.S. citizens for 27 years, conducting English language learning activities, seminars for entrepreneurs and exchange programs.

Our team is genuinely interested in the people living in the region and the relationships we have created over the years are the foundation of bilateral connections,” Sorrow said and expressed hope for the restoration of the diplomatic institution.

It's worth noting that at the end of April, Russia has launched an effort on creating the list of unfriendly states, which are banned from hiring Russian citizens for work in the diplomatic missions.

After the closure of the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg, U.S. Embassy in Moscow remained the only American diplomatic institution in Russia.
