Gerus has lobbied an import of electricity from an aggressor country - Nalivaichenko

Chair of the energy committee of the Parliament, Andrii Gerus, has lobbied an import of electricity from Russia, which will make Ukraine energy dependent. This statement came from Valentin Nalivaichenko, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, ex-Head of the Security Service of Ukraine in the broadcasting "Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster".

Member of the Parliament informed that in the end of September Adrii Gerus initiated changes in the legislation which allowed import of electricity from Russia and import itself has started on 1st October.

"I am warning you about renewing businesses, energy business with an aggressor country. From 1st of October, dear tele-spectators, dear citizens of Ukraine, already in the new Rada, a deputy which chairs the Energy Committee, could not find anything better to propose than this. Just think about it, he himself secretly renewed import of electricity, which by the way has not been exported to the country from November 2015, do you think from where? - from the Russian Federation", - stated Nalivaichenko.

He turned attention that doing business with aggressor country is unacceptable and noted that import of electricity makes Ukraine energy dependent from the Kremlin.

"So today, as member of Parliament, I meet with the American partners... They ask me directly how it could happen that Andrii Gerus, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine renewing business with a Russian company, headed by Sechin, citizen of Russia which is under the American sanctions because of aggression against you and us? How this could be possible?" - said Nalivaichenko.

As a reminder, on 18 september the Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law "On introducing amendments to certain laws of Ukraine in sphere of usage of nuclear energy", where Andrii Gerus, chair of the Energy Committee of the Parliament has lobbied an amendment allowing to Ukrainian consumers to buy an imported electricity by bilateral agreements. According to Gerus, this was aimed to facilitate import from Belarus.

On 1st of October, first supply of electricity from Russia took place as import. The supply was under the normal scheduled with capacity of 100MW. According to market source, electricity was imported by "United Energy" company which some connect to Ihor Kolomoisky.

Number of energy experts considered that restarting import from Russian Federation is a threat to the energy independence of Ukraine and can be an instrument for future pressure from Kremlin to Ukrainian politicians. Member of the Ukrainian Parliament, Mykhailo Bondar stated that he would initiate repealing the Gerus' amendment on import of electricity.
