One of the symbols of modern Kyiv: interesting facts about the famous hotel "Salyut", photos

The residents of Kyiv and guests of the capital have always been attracted by an unusual, "space" architecture building in the center of Pechersk - the hotel "Salyut", located near the subway station "Arsenalna" at 11, Ivan Mazepa Street.

"Kyiv: from past to present" told about the history of the building.

The hotel is located next to the park with the same name, not far from Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, at "Slava" Square. It is a seven-storey building in the shape of an ellipse.

Avraham Miletsky was an architect of the project. Its construction was finished in 1984. Originally it was planned that the round building would have 18 floors. Initially, a technical and basement floor was built and used as a hall and a restaurant. But officials forbade to continue the construction of additional floors, as it seemed to affect the panorama of Kyiv.

Previously, on this spot was the bell tower of the Military Nikolsky Monastery, which was destroyed in the 1930s.
