The U.S. Senate proposed new sanctions against Nord Stream 2

In the U.S., a bill was initiated to overturn the decisions of President Joseph Biden's administration regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which has recently waived the sanctions against the individuals and entities involved in the construction of the pipeline.

The bill was lobbied by Republican Senator Kevin Cramer, as he stated on Twitter.

In his message, he criticized the actions of the American president.

Today I've introduced the POWERS Act, a bill to reinstate the Nord Stream 2 sanctions President Biden is waiving and expand sanctions on Russian entities working on the pipeline. Days after Russian hackers successfully attacked an American pipeline, President Biden decided to give Vladimir Putin his own pipeline and hand him a major geopolitical win that cuts right through the NATO alliance," Cramer wrote.

Cramer tagged several American officials and stated that the pipeline is a threat to America’s global standing and therefore, it must be stopped.

At the risk of weakening America’s global standing, the Biden Administration is acquiescing to a misguided German strategy that will give Putin a grip on our allies in Europe. I urge Congress to join this effort before the Administration makes the United States learn the hard way why energy security means national security,” he claimed.

Thirteen more legislators also demanded sanctions to be restored. All of them demanded tougher restrictive measures against the Kremlin.
