On Friday, October 8, the MPs of the Ukrainian Parliament elected a new Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. With 261 votes, Mr. Ruslan Stefanchuk has replaced Dmytro Razumkov in this position.
Stefanchuk, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the Servant of the People party, had also previously represented the president in Parliament. However, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Mr. Stefanchuk from this position a day before he was appointed Chairman.
Servants of the People had stated earlier that Ruslan Stefanchuk was the only candidate for the post of the Verkhovna Rada Chairman. Olexandr Kornienko, the first deputy of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada, may assume the position of the First Vice-Speaker.
