It will be a threat even without Putin: Ukraine's ally "opened the eyes" of the West to Russia

Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said that Russia will be a threat for a long time to come, even if it is not led by Vladimir Putin. This is connected with Russian imperial ambitions.

He said this in an interview with The Telegraph at the Latvian Embassy in London during a two-day visit to Great Britain.

"Europe will have to deal with a dangerous Russia for a long time, and Russia's imperialist ambitions will outlast Putin... We will have to deal with a troubled, dangerous Russia for a long time to come. Even after the end of this war - and all wars end eventually - we will still have a problem in Russia which will not be related directly to the rule of Putin," Kariņš noted.

At the same time, he added that currently there are no recorded movements in the Russian Federation that would indicate the liberalism of the Russian government. Therefore, there will be no changes in Russia's policy in the near future, Latvian Foreign Minister emphasizes.

"Russia has proven that it uses peace to rearm in order to attack," Kariņš explained.

Earlier we reported that Krišjānis Kariņš believes that there may not be a major war with Russia in Europe if the allies help Ukraine defeat the enemy.
