British Foreign Secretary pays secret visit to Kyiv: what he discussed with Zelensky

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who had previously expressed his position on Ukraine's strikes on Russian territory with weapons provided by the West, secretly visited Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. They managed to discuss the situation at the front, the importance of weapons, and upcoming international events.

Apostrophe has collected information about what is known about the secret visit of the British Foreign Secretary to Ukraine.

Official website of the President of Ukraine states that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Cameron in Kyiv.

The meeting focused on the situation at the frontline, emphasizing the importance of the rapid delivery of the weapons, envisaged by the support package. First of all, it was about armored vehicles, ammunition and missiles of various types.

At the meeting, President Zelensky and the British Foreign Secretary also focused on preparations for international events that are scheduled to take place soon: the G7 Summit in Italy, the Peace Summit in Switzerland, the NATO Summit in Washington, and the 4th European Political Community Summit in the UK.

During the visit, the President also had the opportunity to thank the UK Government for providing the largest package of defense support, which amounts to half a billion pounds. Volodymyr Zelensky noted the following:

"The provision of this package, together with the crucial decision of the United States to provide aid, is very important for us at this key moment.''

President Volodymyr Zelensky also wrote on his Telegram channel that his meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron helped to inform him of the particular importance of the weapons, envisaged by the support package.

Deutsche Welle (DW) reports that the meeting between the British Foreign Secretary and the President of Ukraine took place yesterday, May 2. Reuters quotes Cameron as saying that Ukraine can decide for itself whether to use the weapons provided by London to strike targets inside Russia. He also left a small announcement that in June, he will bring together international partners to raise additional funds for the International Fund for Ukraine to meet urgent defense needs.

"This war is the challenge of our generation, and Ukraine cannot fight it alone. We must all do our part to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to win," DW quoted Cameron as saying to AFP.
