"A new day begins": Ukrainian Foreign Minister spoke to the new U.S. Secretary of State

On Monday, February 1, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke by phone with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba, as was reported by the press-service of the U.S. Department of State

The U.S Secretary emphasized strong bipartisan support for Ukraine and the priority the United States places on Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He pledged to continue robust U.S. economic and military assistance to Ukraine.

Secretary Blinken highlighted the importance of Ukraine maintaining progress on fighting corruption and implementing rule of law and economic reforms that will strengthen Ukraine’s institutions and ensure a bright and prosperous future for all Ukrainians. The Secretary and Foreign Minister Kuleba also discussed Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19 and to achieve a diplomatic resolution to Russia’s aggression in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.

In turn, Dmitry Kuleba noted that both parties reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States of America and agreed to make it more ambitious.

"A new day is beginning in our relationship. I am grateful to the United States for its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," he tweeted.

Aсcording to “Apostrophe”, Antony Blinken has Ukrainian roots. His paternal grandfather immigrated to the United States from Kyiv, and his stepfather, the famous international prosecutor Sam Pisar, survived the Holocaust and the concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Poland. Blinken had previously visited the Ukrainian capital a few times.
