On the way to the European Union: Zelensky signed an important document with the leaders of Poland and Lithuania

On Wednesday, February 23, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, who arrived in Ukraine on a working visit.

Following today's negotiations, the Presidents signed a joint declaration supporting granting Ukraine the European Union status.

Ukraine deserves European Union candidate status, and Poland and Lithuania will support it in this goal, Duda and Nausėda have said.

"We emphasize that, given the significant progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement and internal reforms, as well as the current security challenges, Ukraine deserves EU candidate status and Lithuania and Poland will support Ukraine in achieving this goal," said the declaration, signed in Kyiv by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

The joint declaration calls on the international community for "swift introduction" of "robust" sanctions on Russia, including measures targeting the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Russia and Germany.

The head of the power said this at a briefing, which is available on the Apostrophe.

"I am grateful to the presidents of Lithuania and Poland for being among the first countries to support us. In particular, in the issue of granting a candidate status," Zelensky said.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda and President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda came to Kyiv to express their support for our country against the background of Russian aggression.

After the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the so-called "republics" of Donbas as independent, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Shimonite said on Tuesday that she was planning another visit to Ukraine next week.
