Ukraine should also be supplied with heavy armament from third countries - says former adviser to the US Secretary of Defense

Along with an increase in the supply of weapons by Western countries, it is necessary to supply Ukraine with weapons from third countries which are already cooperating with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, it is necessary to supply long-range air defense systems and artillery.

Ex-adviser to the US Secretary of Defense Christopher Harvin wrote about this in a comment to Guildhall.

"The war in Ukraine is not a sprint, but a marathon, and we have no right to weaken the direction of military supplies. It is Ukraine that should continue to set the tone in negotiations on the supply of weapons, since the task is not only tactical success, but strategic dominance, and only the Ukrainian command knows the right accents. The territory of the battles, the types of enemy weapons on the destinations, the operational situation serves as a basis to choose the types of weapons and the correct supplies to undermine the potential of Russia, and it is the Ukrainians who really know what is actually needed" - he said.

"In the context of discussions about the difficulties to supply modern Western systems, in particular heavy armament, because the Armed Forces of Ukraine need time to train with them. All over the world, in third countries, there are many Soviet weapons systems that are either already integrated into the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, or are easily integrated. We must work out this direction and achieve results" considers the former Adviser to the US Department of Defense.

"Along with the main work with Western partners in armaments, it is necessary to establish work with third countries, in particular, to ensure a breakthrough in the air and undermine the border logistics of Russian units. Long-range air defense from third countries is one of the priorities, this is what is available and can be obtained. Inter alia, it is also possible to supply from third countries long-range artillery and ammunition for it to work along logistics corridors and weaken the offensive potential. Everything that is being delivered now must be strengthened, increased and extended" - has concluded Christopher Harvin.

Earlier, the US Army Brigadier General Blaine Holt said that instead of creating a no-fly zone in a traditional manner, the US should consider providing Ukraine with modern weapons to counter air and missile strikes, as well as attacks from the sea.

Also, a number of the European Parliament members claimed that strengthening the air and missile defense of Ukraine should become a priority for Western countries considering refusal to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine by the NATO countries.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba informed about an agreement on "concrete steps" to reduce the number of Russian missiles hitting targets in Ukraine after talks with the US delegation in Warsaw.
