On Vladimir Putin's initiative, three-party negotiations will be held in Moscow on January 11, involving President of the Russian Federation, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
This was announced on the Kremlin’s press-service website.
The negotiations are aimed to consider the implementation of the Statement of the Leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia on Nagorno-Karabakh of November 9, 2020, discussing further steps to resolve the problem in the region. Particular attention will be paid to the issues of assistance to residents of areas affected by the hostilities, as well as to the unblocking and development of trade and economic cooperation.
According to Mykola Pashinyan's spokesperson Mane Gevorgyan, it is important for Armenia to discuss the issue of war prisoners and the missing. The presidents of the three countries will also discuss the search for dead bodies in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia escalated in autumn 2020. In November, authorities of both countries signed a peace agreement with the support of the Kremlin. The document says that Baku will receive a significant part of the region. An akin peace treaty provoked a wave of protests in Armenia.
As was reported by ‘Apostrophe’ earlier, Armenia and Azerbaijan have conducted a large-scale prisoner exchange in the all-for-all format.
