Russians have nothing to oppose: expert assessed the work of the FrankenSAM complex

Ukrainian Defense Forces have successfully tested the first of the "hybrid" SAMs under the common name FrankenSAM, in which Western missiles are combined with Soviet SAMs. It was used to shoot down a kamikaze drone "Shahed-136".

Roman Svitan, a military expert, reserve Colonel of the AFU, told about it on the air of Apostrophe TV.

In fact, the FrankenSAM is a hybrid complex, typically "BUK" SAMs, for which the stock of their "native" Soviet missiles has been exhausted, adapted for American missiles, mainly RIM-7.

"Such hybrid systems are superior to the "parent" originals for a number of reasons. First of all, we should name the fact that their use confuses the enemy. When they point their targets at us and try to record the work of our radar, they see, let's say, the Soviet "BUK", knowing the impact range of its missiles, but in response to the Russian air objects flies a missile that hits much farther, with a wider range of interception," - said Roman Svitan.

He noted that in this case it becomes more difficult for Russians to navigate during combat and problematic to "adjust" to our Air Defense Systems.

In addition, Patriot missile systems have been adapted to use our locators, making it possible to hit Russian air targets even more effectively.

"Russians have nothing much to counter, so now they will falter from any Ukrainian RLS, with no understanding of what missile can be fired at them," - said the expert, adding that enemy aircraft will be more difficult to approach the line of contact on the ground.
