Polish farmers will block the border with Ukraine again: the strike date has been announced

Polish farmers announced a new blockade of the border with Ukraine. It is scheduled to start on February 9. They will block all roads from Ukraine to Poland, as well as crossings at all checkpoints.

This was reported by Polish news and analysis website sad24.pl.

In particular, the report said that the blockade of the border was organized by the farmers' union "Solidarity". The decision on a new blockade was made by the presidium of the union unanimously on January 31. "Solidarity" also called for a general farmers' strike and a blockade of all communication routes with Ukraine. The action will begin on February 9 at 10:00 a.m.

Farmers say that they were forced to such an unprecedented action by the uncertain position of Polish government, as well as the position of the European Commission towards the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

"Our patience has run out. Brussels' position on the last day of January 2024 is unacceptable for our entire agricultural community," Polish agrarians stated.

They say that the import of agricultural products to the EU has threatened not only profitability, but also the very existence of Polish farms, which are family businesses and the only source of livelihood for many hereditary farmers, as well as the basis of Poland's agricultural production.

"There is no agreement on the implementation of the "European Green Deal", the EU "farm-to-table" strategy and the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union as proposed. The Polish government must have a clear plan for the development of agricultural production, profitability of production, restoration of Polish processing and Polish trade. We will fight for this. Polish family farms are the foundation of the country's food security. Healthy Polish food produced by Polish farmers is the basis for the nutrition and health of Polish citizens," states "Solidarity".

According to the farmers, they absolutely disagree with the current situation and call on all workers in the agricultural sector to join their protest. Only then they can hope that the authorities in Warsaw and in Brussels will listen to them.

"We ask our compatriots to understand the situation in which we all find ourselves. We are fighting for our common good - to save Polish family farms, which often belong to several generations, from collapse and bankruptcy," Polish farmers appeal to their fellow citizens.

Earlier "Apostrophe" informed that Donald Tusk said that Poland is close to resolving the issue of the de-blockade of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.
