Canada will hand over to Ukraine missiles that were planned to be disposed of: there are tens of thousands of them in warehouses

Canada may provide Ukraine with decommissioned CRV7 aircraft missiles, the decision will be made in the coming days.

This was stated by Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair.

"We are now checking whether these munitions can be safely transported. As soon as we determine this, which should happen in the coming days, we will deliver them to Ukraine as soon as possible," he said.

According to the Defense Minister, not all of the missiles of this type, which are over 83,000 in Canada's stockpile, are operational, but a certain number of them can still be used.

The CRV7 missiles were developed in the 1980s and decommissioned by Canada in the early 2000s. Three years ago, the Government signed a contract for their gradual disposal. The Canadian Ministry of Defense later announced that it was considering these missiles as part of a possible future military aid package to Ukraine, but not all missiles have warheads.

The CRV7 is a 70 mm caliber aircraft unguided missile with a folding tail designed to strike ground targets. It was adopted into service in the early 1970s as an improved version of the standard U.S. SAM, which had the same caliber. The CRV7 was the most powerful missile available at the time, with enough kinetic energy to penetrate standard Warsaw Pact Organization aircraft hangars. Currently, this missile remains one of the most powerful assault missiles.
