They say that they are at a resort: how Ukraine holds Russian prisoners of war, photo

Unlike the Ukrainian military, who are tortured in Russian captivity, Russian prisoners of war live in Ukraine as if in a resort - they have a clear daily routine, normal food and a good night's sleep.

This is stated in the article "Apostrophe".

It is worth noting that before the war in Ukraine, the camp where Russian prisoners are maintaining was an institution for those convicted of minor crimes.

According to Petro Yatsenko, Head of the press service of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, after the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian prisoners were transferred to other places of detention, and the colony was repurposed for captured Russians.

"The staff of the camp are employees of the State Department of Ukraine for the Execution of Sentences, who have undergone special legal training related to the study of normative acts regarding the observance of the rights of prisoners of war," the message reads.

According to him, the colony honors the Geneva Convention. On the walls of some camp buildings hang shields, which depict excerpts from international documents on the rights of prisoners of war. These posters are written in Russian, so that every POW can read them. They describe the rights of prisoners of war and indicate what POWs can count on, as well as what is forbidden to do with them. According to Petro Yatsenko, some representatives of the "Wagner" PMC, who were recruited from Russian correctional colonies and exchanged before the assassination attempt on Prigozhin, called the conditions in Ukraine a "tourist trip."

The number of prisoners of war is not disclosed here, but according to Petro Yatsenko, there are "enough of them". There is also another similar camp located west of Kyiv. Prisoners are sent there in "portions" - 20, 30, 50 people from different areas of the war front. Some of them have been waiting for the exchange for several months, while others have been here for much longer than a year.

First, each new arrival undergoes an initial medical examination to assess their physical condition. Among them are many wounded. There are people with amputated limbs, on wheelchairs, on crutches, with shrapnel wounds and the sequelae of frostbite, in the camp. Such patients are placed in a hospital for further treatment.

During the initial inspection, their military uniforms are taken from the prisoners, washed, disinfected and stored in a special room in bags with the name and surname of the owner. After the exchange, they will get their property back. Meanwhile, they are given blue robes, shoes, personal hygiene items, some other clothes and placed in two-week quarantine.

Quarantine here is done not for the purpose of medical isolation, but to communicate with psychologists, so that they understand what to expect from POWs and what work a prisoner can perform. The people here are from different social strata. Among them are members of the "Wagner" Group, as well as former prisoners from "Storm Z", who were imprisoned for serious crimes on the territory of Russia. Sometimes there may be cases of aggression that require special attention. Some individuals from the Russian camps tried to establish prison order here, but the local staff quickly stopped these attempts.
