The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has decided to withdraw Abrams tanks from the front line because of the danger from Russian drones, which complicate the use of combat vehicles on the battlefield.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
It is noted that in January 2023, the US announced that it would send 31 Abrams M1A1 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is equivalent to one Ukrainian battalion. But the battlefield has changed significantly, in particular due to the occupiers' use of reconnaissance and attack drones. Russian UAVs have made it more difficult for Ukraine to protect its tanks. Over the past two months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost five Abrams tanks on the battlefield. In addition, three more tanks were damaged. The US and Ukraine will work together to change the tactics of using combat vehicles.
Moreover, it is noted that the threat of drones is not the only problem. The Armed Forces of Ukraine need to develop new tactics that will make Abrams tanks more effective in combat.
