For the first time in history, a women's unit of UAV operators will be created in Ukraine

An initiative to form a volunteer women's unit has emerged in Ukraine - it will be a small volunteer unit that will work with unmanned aerial systems in close integration with the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Ihor Lutsenko, a serviceman and Commander of the Order of Santiago drone attack company, announced this on his Facebook page.

Lutsenko wrote that it will be a small volunteer unit that will work closely with the Ukrainian Defense Forces to operate unmanned aerial systems.

"Small for now, as I understand it, but it all depends on how big will be the demand for participation in such a unit," he said.

The serviceman pointed out that it would involve working with relatively complex systems, requiring technical competence, care and accuracy, basic engineering skills and creative tactical thinking.

The initiative to form a women's UAV unit involves a competitive selection process that will take place as follows:

"Determining how capable female candidates are of performing combat missions within the unit. Training, training and more training. At the same time, it is also a way of selection. Checks by the Security Service of Ukraine. Then - the final decision on enrollment in the unit."

In addition, Lutsenko emphasized that knowledge and experience in piloting, operating, repairing, maintaining UAVs or similar systems would be a plus:

"Also, of course, military skills, from sapper to medic or rifleman, will be helpful. Experience in programming, working in technical specialties (electronics, radio, etc.) will also be a plus. But the main thing is the willingness to learn. And the willingness to get along with the team...".

He also expressed his opinion on the formation of a volunteer women's unit that would be engaged in drone operations:

"...the fact that Ukrainian men and women have to fight - it's bad. But it is good that initiatives are being taken to create the most comfortable conditions for military service for all categories of volunteers. Unfortunately, the enemy has a great advantage in manpower, so we should not neglect any ideas that can reduce this gap."

For comparison, the fighter pointed out that historically, the first Ukrainian women's unit was created in the ranks of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen before the World War I. At the same time, one of the most famous women's units in the world is the Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF) of the United Kingdom.

Earlier, we wrote that Ukraine will be able to reach 3300 km with drones.
