On Friday, May 31, Ukraine managed to return 75 more military and civilians from enemy captivity. The long-awaited exchange took place for the first time since February this year.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
In the post, representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War (KSHPPV) note that the next exchange of prisoners took place after a long break - 75 military and civilians were returned. The exchange of prisoners took place for the first time in a long time, since February 2024:
"Thanks to the efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, on behalf of the President of Ukraine, the long-awaited exchange of prisoners took place for the first time since February this year."
It is added that among the liberated defenders there are 70 men and 5 women, 6 officers and 65 privates and sergeants, most of them have injuries or illnesses: "At least a third of the rescued have injuries, serious illnesses or disabilities."
"This time, 37 representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were released from captivity, including 13 soldiers of the Navy, two representatives of the Air Force, and 21 National Guardsmen. Seven border guards, six members of the territorial defense and four Ukrainian civilians are returning home," the KSHPPV said in a statement.
In addition, the report adds that it was possible to return from Russian captivity:
- 19 defenders of Zmiinyi (Snake) Island,
- 14 soldiers who guarded the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant,
- 10 defenders of Mariupol.
The soldiers who were returned home were captured in different parts of the frontline, including:
- Kharkiv,
- Kyiv,
- Kherson,
- Donetsk,
- Luhansk,
- Zaporizhzhia,
- Sumy directions.
"Today's exchange is the 52nd since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. As of now, 3210 Ukrainian defenders have been released from captivity," the Coordination Headquarters representatives note and express their gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for their active participation in the exchange.
