The son of the CIA deputy director, 21-year-old American Michael Gloss, was killed in Russia's war against Ukraine. The guy, who "carried out an ecological mission" and tried to live by the principle of zero waste, signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and ended his life in the ranks of the Russian army.
This is stated in the material of one of the Russian publications.
It is known that Michael Alexander Gloss was born into a military family. His mother, Julianne Gallina Gloss, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and in the 1990s became the first female commandant of the academy's cadet corps.
Julianne Gloss has spent the past six years building her career at the Central Intelligence Agency. In February 2024, she was appointed as the CIA's Deputy Director for Digital Innovation.
Michael's father, Larry Gloss, is a U.S. Navy veteran. He currently heads a company that creates security software for clients including the U.S. government, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other NATO countries.
Michael himself was an environmental activist, attended climate protests, and defended women's rights.
In particular, in March he posted photos from the Italian city of Bari against a backdrop of anti-fascist graffiti. One of the hashtags he used under the photos was #endukrainewar.
The guy traveled a lot.
"I ran away from home. I traveled the world," Michael wrote.
And in one of the chats, to the question "Are you from the States?" the guy replied: "Unfortunately, yes. I was born here."
Before that, in April 2022, he posted a video of an American flag burning.
Michael wrote about his arrival in the Russian Federation on August 13, 2023 - he published a photo from the center of Vladikavkaz. Rosmedia indicates that Michael arrived in Russia without a clear plan. Then - he organized a tour of the country.
The guy spent his last weekend of the summer at a music festival in the Moscow region. Then Gloss met a Russian, to whom he told that he "carries an ecological mission" and tries to live according to the principle of zero waste. Already in September, in one of the chats, Michael wrote that his visa would expire in a week:
"I am in Moscow for the last week of my visa. I humbly ask someone to take me in this week. So that I can reach the end of my journey."
Two days later, he began searching for accommodation in Vienna and Bratislava on chat rooms. Michael did not share his plans with his friend, whom he already knew. According to him, the American borrowed his shoes in the morning after spending the night, and in the afternoon he packed up and left.
On September 5, a record with the data of Michael Alexander Gloss appeared in the EMIAS database. His address is listed as a recruiting point, and his "apartment" is a medical examination room. This address was allegedly given to foreigners who came to Moscow to sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and went to fight in Ukraine.
After two weeks of training, no later than September 23, the American group was taken by bus to a military unit. After that, the foreign contract soldiers were transported to Russian regions for training at training grounds.
"Hello, family! I'm in Russia now, working here. Trying to get a passport and save up money to go travel around Africa, because I like the warm weather too. And it's minus ten for me right now - it's tin!" the guy wrote in December.
Gloss last logged into Telegram on March 14, 2024. Two weeks later, the 137th Airborne Regiment launched an offensive against Ukrainian positions. The American's death was announced on April 4, 2024. The exact circumstances of Michael's death are unknown.
