An independent candidate Gitanas Nausėda has become the new president of Lithuania.

As noted, according to data from all polling stations, 65.86% of voters supported Nauseda. His rival, Ingrida Simonyte, received 32.86%. Nauseda won in all regions of the country.
The newly elected president has already expressed his plans to soften the rhetoric against Russia. Nevertheless, he stressed that his country will not make concessions to Moscow.
Nauseda has also announced that one can expect serious changes in Lithuania-Russia relationship only after Russia’s government changes its behavior toward Ukraine.
