Without housing, work and hope: how Mariupol residents live after the arrival of the "Russian world"

The situation in temporarily occupied Mariupol remains deplorable - the city has problems with heating, no compensation for destroyed property is paid and there is no work.

This was told on the air of Apostrophe TV by Petro Andriushchenko, Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol.

According to him, there are constant promises to the residents, but they don't keep their word. In particular, it concerns compensation for destroyed housing. First they promised housing for housing, later - compensation for destroyed property. Now Mariupol residents are put on the waiting list, but there is no housing.

Andriushchenko emphasized that it is also impossible to create a machine-building concern on the basis of Azovmash.

"For a long time the concern was run by people who brought the "Russian war" to the city. It was plundered to such a state that it cannot be restored at all. And Russians are not even preparing for it. So all this talk is just information noise," he told.

The territory of the legendary plant "Azovstal" is used for storage of equipment with the illegal export of scrap metal, shared between Pushilin and Kadyrov.

Only Ilyich Iron & Steel Works plant is partially exploited out of the whole infrastructure. But there is no metallurgical production there, at most they produce paving slabs. The port and railroad infrastructure is being used.

Andryushchenko emphasized that the only enterprise that restarted its work is a garment factory. However, it hasn't suffered much as a result of the hostilities.

"They sew overalls and military uniforms there. However, the production volume is small," he explained.

The Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol also told about the active Russian propaganda aimed to encourage parents to send their children to Russia for studying.

"They are practically left with no choice - either children spend the winter in cold apartments, or go to study in Moscow or St. Petersburg at least in the warmth. Russian propagandists work with children in these media schools," he said.

Andriushchenko also added that everything Ukrainian was completely destroyed in local schools. Russian textbooks were brought in for education and children study according to Russian programs. Russian books were delivered to the library.
