A highway collapsed in China, trapping 18 cars under the rubble, killing and injuring people.

It is noted that the tragedy occurred at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, on the highway between Meizhou city and Dabu County in Guangdong Province.
"The incident caused 18 vehicles to become trapped, and 31 people were rescued from the scene and sent for hospital treatment," the newspaper report said. At the same time, according to unofficial reports, at least 19 people were killed.
The published photos and videos show a deep pit with smoke rising from it, and dozens of cars inside. Rescuers are working at the scene, and many of the victims have been transported to hospitals.
The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, but it could be a series of extreme weather events, from fatal floods to a deadly tornado, in Guangdong province.
