Passenger train collides with a bus in Slovakia, killing 7 people

On Thursday, June 27, a Budapest-Prague train collided with a bus near the Slovak town of Nove Zamky and caught fire. There are reports of dead and injured.

This was reported by the Operational Centre of the Rescue Health Service of the Slovak Republic.

The updated report states that the train, which was traveling from the Czech capital of Prague to the Hungarian capital of Budapest, was involved in a traffic accident with a bus in southern Slovakia (near the city of Nove Zamky). According to AP, there were about 200 people on board of the Eurocity train at the time, while the bus was carrying 8 passengers.

It is noted that at the time of the accident, the fuse at the railroad crossing was working, so the tragedy probably happened because the bus driver did not notice it.

"The deaths and injuries were confirmed by the Slovak rescue service, and ZSSK said that none of the victims were aboard the train," AP reports. The published footage showed the train's engine catching fire. Representatives of the railroad said that the bus was heavily damaged in the accident, breaking into almost two parts.

The driver escaped the crash with minor burns. The death toll is currently 7 people, with 5 more people injured and hospitalized. However, the Slovak Emergency Medical Rescue Service Operational Centre notes that the data may be updated.

Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok visited the crash site. He said that at first the victims could not be immediately identified.

"I wish the injured a speedy recovery and thank the doctors and rescue teams for their work," Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said.

Journalist Vitaliy Glagola reported on his Telegram channel that there were Ukrainians on the train. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told Suspilne that it would check the information whether there were any Ukrainians among the injured.

Earlier, we reported that train collision in the Czech Republic killed two Ukrainians.
