The US, which had previously asked Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian refineries, has made a new statement regarding such attacks, also indicating the Government's position on strikes on Russian plants.
This is said in a statement by U.S. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, citing a Department of State Daily Press Briefing held on March 26.
It is noted that the position of the United States of America is centered around the idea of not encouraging Ukraine to strike outside its own borders, recalling the recent strikes on Russian oil refineries.
During the briefing, the journalists asked the State Department Spokesperson to comment on recent press reports regarding the US request to Ukraine to stop conducting strikes on Russian refineries. Matthew Miller said the following:
"I'm not going to speak about specific conversations, but it's been our position since the outset of this war that we do not encourage or support Ukraine's strikes outside of its own territory."
When asked again during the briefing whether there had been any specific conversations about strikes on Russian oil refineries, State Department spokesman Miller again avoided a direct answer, saying only that the Ukrainian Government was well aware of the American position, so "it's not something which they would be unaware."
Earlier, we wrote about Ukraine's response to the U.S. calls to stop the attacks on refineries in Russia.
