Orban blocks aid to Ukraine: EU leaders agree to hold new summit

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has vetoed the allocation of €50 billion to Ukraine as part of the EU's medium-term funding program. The EU leaders will meet again in early January to discuss this issue.

This is reported by "European Pravda".

It is noted that President of the European Council Charles Michel said that the negotiations of EU leaders continued until late at night. He emphasized that the subject of the discussion was not only the financing of Ukraine. The EU leaders were offered for adoption a "package", which included funding support for Ukraine, spending on migration programs, EU Solidarity Fund and defense funding.

"Only one state couldn't agree this decision ... The other 26 leaders agreed this package, including Sweden, whose Prime Minister, according to internal procedures, has to discuss this decision with parliament, but, as I expect, will join the others after that," Michel said.

Michel noted, that the package is not rejected, but postponed: the leaders have agreed on an extraordinary summit that will be dedicated to the issue.

"We will revert to this matter early next year and we'll try to get unanimity," President of the European Council said.

According to publication sources, the EU summit is scheduled for early January 2024.

Earlier "Apostrophe" reported that EU made a historic decision for Ukraine for opening an accession talks.
