In Moldova, the Prime Minister can be brought to justice because of the letter to the President of Ukraine

The Deputy of Parliament of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba demanded to bring the Prime Minister of the country Pavel Filip to criminal liability due to the letter to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in which the need of removal of sanctions from the Moldavian metallurgical industrial complex working in unrecognized Transnistria was substantiated.

This was reported by Point.

The Moldavian MP believes that the Prime Minister should be held responsible under article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova "Treason", which provides for imprisonment from 12 to 20 years, since he "openly lobbied for decisions contrary to the national interest".

"Treason to the Motherland, i.e. an act intentionally committed by a citizen of the Republic of Moldova to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity or state security and defense capability of the Republic of Moldova," Alaiba said.

On May 3, a group of members of the Moldovan Parliament demanded from Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip to report on his letter to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, which became a formal reason for relief from sanctions against one of the key taxpayers of the unrecognized Transnistria - the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant.

On May 14, 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko included the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant in the list of sanctions for three years, but on March 19, 2019 Poroshenko issued a decree with an updated list of legal entities subject to sanctions, where the Chisinau company Novastal prim is listed instead of the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant.

At the moment the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant is one of the largest taxpayers of unrecognized Transnistria.
