The special representative of the US State Department on Ukraine issues Kurt Volker has asked the Kremlin for permission to meet with assistant to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Vladislav Surkov, who was acting as a negotiator on behalf of the Russian Federation concerning the conflict in the Donbas and the situation in the occupied Crimea.
This was reported by the Director of the center for political conjuncture of the Russian Federation Aleksey Chesnakov in a comment for the media, "Interfax-Ukraine" reports.
"Kurt Volker sent a request for a meeting with the assistant to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov," he said.
Sources of the media specified that the American diplomat intends to offer Surkov to hold a meeting at the end of August.
At the same time, the Kremlin has not yet responded to this initiative.
According to "Apostrophe", in June it became known that the assistant to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin Vladislav Surkov will remain in the position of the person responsible for the negotiations in the "Normandy format". In the spring there was information that Surkov was allegedly suspended from negotiations, but Putin's speaker Peskov denied it.
