Latvia sent 271 cars, confiscated from drunk drivers, to Ukraine. All of them are provided for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The total value of the cars is estimated at almost one million euros.
About it writes Delfi.
The publication reminds that on February 16, the Seimas unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on support of the civilian population of Ukraine, allowing to transfer or donate to the Government of Ukraine vehicles, owned by the state, free of charge.
Thus, it was possible to transfer to Ukraine vehicles that were confiscated in Latvia from drivers who sat behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.
Since these changes in the law came into force, the government has made several decisions this year to transfer confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.
According to the State Revenue Service, 271 cars have been transferred to Ukraine this year for a total notional amount of €903,453.
At the same time, the government is preparing documents on the transfer of another 34 cars to Ukraine, the value of which is estimated at €161,880.
Earlier we wrote that US Senate won't vote on a package to provide additional aid to Ukraine and strengthen US border security until early next year.
