Many people are interested in the issue of flights in Ukraine. Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that in 2024 Ukraine could resume air traffic, which has been interrupted since the beginning of the Russian invasion. A new statement by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration Oleksandr Kubrakov confirms that Ukraine is officially starting negotiations with US and EU regulators on the possible reopening of some airports.
This was stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine
He stated the following:
"There are not many examples in the world where airports are working, when drones or missiles can arrive at any time."
In this context, he mentions Israel, pointing out that "this is the most successful example. We have spent a lot of time and are consulting with the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority."
The Minister noted that at this stage there is no question of exact terms, however, Ukraine is already conveying its vision of this process, especially focusing on risk assessment.
However, Kubrakov confirmed the aspect that European airlines are also interested in resuming the work of Ukrainian airports, but did not go into specifics. At the same time, negotiations are underway with three Ukrainian companies. The minister comments on it as follows: "They also confirm, of course, that they want to fly here, these are their base airports, their base country."
He adds that there are different scenarios as to how many airports can operate again in Ukraine. However, he emphasizes that "it is important for us to hear the first official feedback from the regulators."
He also emphasized that the issue of creating its own national aviation operator is not a priority during the war in the country, noting that this issue will still need to be discussed later.
Earlier "Apostrophe" reported that Ukrainian pilots will be ready to fly F-16s in combat by summer 2024.
