Russia is putting pressure, we must fight back: the situation in Kharkiv Region as of May 10

Russia continues to terrorise Kharkiv - the enemy has intensified its shelling of the city, the latest of which was carried out today. In particular, fighting with Russian infantry continues near Vovchansk, and the enemy is actively engaging aviation, using electronic warfare and reconnaissance UAVs.

Apostrophe has collected the latest information on the situation in the Kharkiv direction.

The occupiers intensified shelling

The Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration (RMA), Oleh Syniehubov, wrote on his Telegram channel today that the occupiers had intensified shelling in the northern direction, primarily targeting the city of Vovchansk.

He notes: "The shelling from multiple rocket launchers, MLRS and artillery continued all night. There were unsuccessful attempts by the subversive reconnaissance groups to break through the border."

Syniehubov adds that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding their positions: "not a single metre has been lost". According to him, the enemy group does not pose a threat to Kharkiv, the Russians only have enough forces for provocations in the northern direction.

"All the authorities are working, on the ground and fulfilling their duties. We urge civilians in the border settlements to take shelter, as the enemy does not care whether they strike at military infrastructure or unarmed civilians," said Syniehubov.

Situation at the frontline

A monitoring channel on Telegram reported today that fighting with Russian infantry continues in the Kharkiv direction, with clashes taking place near Borysivka, Pylyna, and Krasne. There have been unsuccessful attempts by the Russian occupiers to attack in the areas of Hoptivka and Strilecha. It is also noted that the enemy has failed in the direction of Hatyshche and is regrouping its troops.

As of now, the Russian assaults are carried out by infantry groups without the use of wheeled and tracked vehicles, but with the support of tactical and army aviation - active work of Russian electronic warfare and enemy reconnaissance UAVs is recorded

The monitoring channel noted that Ukrainian artillery and mortar crews are working on the concentration of Russian tactical groups, and that FPV drones are being intensively used against the occupiers.

At the same time, the soldier of the 24th Separate Assault Battalion Aidar stressed that the situation in the direction of Vovchansk, Kharkiv Region, located about 70 km from Kharkiv, is very difficult, and the night of 10 May was particularly difficult. He added that the main reserves of the Russian army should be expected to be deployed in the near future. A soldier of the 24th Separate Assault Battalion Aidar also asked residents of Sumy and Kharkiv Regions to evacuate to a safe distance from the border.

Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the National Security and Defence Council's Central Intelligence Department, wrote on Telegram that "the enemy has the resources to intensify actions in the Kharkiv Region border area". However, he also added that the situation is under control: "The Defence Forces control the situation."

He considers these actions predictable: "The enemy has the resources to escalate the situation in the border area, as we have talked about before. It is important not to confuse this with the ability to capture Kharkiv, which is not there."

Situation with Russian attacks on the city

The Spokesperson for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ilya Yevlash, explained during the national TV marathon why it is sometimes so difficult to determine the type of weapons used by the occupiers to attack Kharkiv, in particular, this also applies to the massive attack that the enemy carried out on 8 May. He pointed out the following:

"Kharkiv is very close to the border with the Russian Federation and there is very little time left to detect and neutralise air threats."

Yevlash said that the occupiers use S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems for strikes - during the use, the enemy hides these systems to strike Kharkiv unnoticed. That is why these strikes are so insidious.

"The Air Force is using all means, exchanging information with our partners on intelligence, but unfortunately, sometimes the enemy can conduct insidious attacks. We are currently identifying the type. Our partners from the Research and Development Centre have to officially determine what kind of weapon it was, and only then we can say for sure," he said.

Electricity in Kharkiv: the current situation

On Radio Liberty, YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko said that the most difficult situation with the energy sector remains in two regions - Kharkiv and Dnipro. In particular, Kharkiv cannot provide all consumers with electricity - 200,000 to 250,000 residents have power cuts every hour.

The YASNO CEO stressed that April and May were the months when energy consumption was among the lowest, but even so, there was a shortage during peak morning and evening consumption hours.

Earlier, we reported that Russia may attack critical infrastructure facilities in Chernihiv.
