The UK will additionally contribute €23 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to recover from Russian attacks.
This was announced by the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
"The UK has announced an additional contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in the amount of £20 million (€23 million),” he said in a statement.
The money from the next grant is expected to be transferred to the Fund's account soon. They will be used to purchase equipment to repair damaged energy infrastructure, strengthen physical protection and provide backup power, including generators and distributed power generation.
"We thank the UK Government for this important support. The enemy continues to destroy the Ukrainian energy sector. The help of our partners is crucial to carry out repairs, restore damaged facilities and increase maneuvering capacities for the next heating season," he said.
The new non-refundable aid will be in addition to the UK's previous contributions, the amount of which reached €50 million. The total amount of contributions to the Fund is €433 million.
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in 2022 at the initiative of the Minister of Energy and European Commissioner for Energy Catherine Simson. This is a mechanism to consolidate assistance from partners willing to financially support Ukrainian energy companies to ensure stable energy supply during Russia's aggression.
Recently, a meeting between British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Herman Halushchenko took place in Kyiv.
They announced the launch of the first 13 innovative energy projects under the InnovateUkraine program. The British Government will provide funding for the relevant projects in the amount of £16 million.
