The newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky will not change the discourse with Russia, since he many times clearly stated that Ukraine is a victim of Russian military aggression.
This opinion was expressed by the Polish historian and political expert, Deputy Director of the state institution "Center for Polish-Russian dialogue and harmony" and specialist on Ukraine Lukasz Adamski.
"I can express my personal opinion: I believe that Ukrainian policy towards Russia will not change. I cannot imagine a compromise with Putin's Russia on terms that would be acceptable to Ukraine. In order to end the war, it is necessary to change the attitude of the Russian authorities - Ukraine here has almost no room for maneuver, because it depends on the Kremlin. I mean, I'm not afraid of it. Especially since Volodymyr Zelensky, it seems, has many times clearly said that Ukraine is a victim of Russian military aggression.
I am not afraid of changes in Ukrainian policy towards Russia," the expert emphasized.
But, according to Adamski, the "indifference" of Zelensky to the Ukrainian language is confusing.
"Ukraine should further strengthen its identity, the role of the Ukrainian language should be greater. And I am a little concerned that President Zelensky has, obviously, quite indifferent attitude to the process of de-imperialization, de-Russianization of Ukraine – which is necessary, in my opinion.
It's a little embarrassing, but we'll see. Leonid Kuchma learned to speak Ukrainian well. Therefore, I hope that Zelensky will begin to use it only in official situations in the performance of the duties of the President," the expert believes.
