The Ukrainian military will be able to stop the enemy's offensive efforts under a certain condition - if security assistance from the United States arrives at the front quickly and without delay.
This was reported by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The analysts cited the words of the US Senate Intelligence Committee Chairperson Senator Mark Warner, who said that US military assistance to Ukraine, including long-range ATACMS missiles, would be delivered to Ukraine "by the end of the week" if the Senate passes the supplemental appropriations bill (on April 23), and US President Joe Biden signs it by April 24. He added that the US presidential administration has been ready to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS for the past several months.
Warner noted the special results that the Ukrainian military has achieved on the battlefield using US military assistance - he noted that "...over the past two years, Ukrainian forces have been able to destroy "87% of Russia's pre-existing ground forces," 67% of Russian tanks and 32% of Russian armored personnel carriers (APCs), with less than 3% of the US defense budget and military assistance from the US and Europe." ISW adds that he may have been referring to Russia's professional forces prior to a full-scale invasion.
At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the rapid arrival of American military aid would help Ukrainian forces stabilize the front line and seize the initiative from the enemy. In an interview with NBC News, he emphasized that US military support gives Ukraine a chance to win. At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine's progress on the front will also depend on how quickly this assistance arrives at the front.
In addition, the President of Ukraine emphasized that he expects the delivery of air defense systems and long-range weapons, as Ukrainian forces currently do not have significant long-range capabilities.
However, ISW experts continue to estimate that the Ukrainian military may suffer some setbacks on the battlefield in the coming weeks while waiting for defense assistance from the United States, which would allow Ukraine to stabilize the front and halt the enemy's offensive if it arrives quickly.
ISW analysts also believe that against this background, the Russian army may intensify offensive operations, missile strikes, and drone attacks in the coming weeks in an attempt to use the time before the arrival of US aid to Ukraine.
