More air defense systems for Ukraine: Norway to provide $1.8 billion in military aid

During the visit of Volodymyr Zelensky to Oslo, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that Norway will transfer to Ukraine additional NASAMS air defense systems and other equipment worth $1.8 billion by the end of 2024.

About it reports "regjeringen".

Some systems are being shipped from the country's warehouses to ensure fast delivery to Ukraine, while others will be ordered from manufacturers.

The country will also provide funds to support critical public services such as schools and health care.

"We are in close dialog with Ukraine about what county needs the most, and together with our allies, we will do everything we can to provide the necessary assistance. Russia's war in Ukraine is also a war against our collective security, democratic rights and values. Together with our allies and partners in Europe and the rest of the world, Norway will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle to defend itself. Russia's war violates the fundamental principles of international law," the Prime Minister emphasized.

It is worth recalling that in February, the Storting (Norwegian Parliament) received broad political support for the five-year Nansen support program for Ukraine, which is estimated at NOK 75 billion. During a meeting in Oslo on Wednesday, Prime Minister Støre announced four key aspects of financial assistance to Ukraine as part of this long support package:

- NOK 135 million for a budget support to the Ukrainian government so that they can provide important public services such as education, health care and pensions;

- NOK 3 billion to support Ukrainian government administration through the World Bank (URTF) early next year;

- NOK 335 million for additional donations of air defense assets to protect Ukrainians from Russian attacks;

- NOK 1 billion in co-financing to strengthen the defense industry's ability to produce more ammunition and missiles;

- NOK 137 million in support of the UN winter plan for Ukraine (food, water, warm clothing, blankets and shelter for people whose homes were destroyed in the winter)
