Petras Auštrevičius, Member of the European Parliament from the Republic of Lithuania (MEP), suggested returning to the US Lend-Lease format to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons.
The MEP said this in a commentary for Guildhall.
"I firmly believe that common sense and a sense of responsibility will take over in the West, and the decision to help Ukraine will find support in both houses of the US Congress. It may be less than $60 billion, but I believe it will be a substantial amount. Otherwise, the United States will depart from its own very strong position, established earlier - the value of democracy and the struggle for the sovereignty of partner states," the politician said.
The MEP noted that the United States has enough stocks of less modern weapons that Ukraine needs just as much and suggested returning to the Lend-Lease format.
"It is the responsibility of politicians to come up with a new vision and creative ideas. Why not return to the American Lend-Lease instrument for arming Ukraine?" summarized Petras Auštrevičius.
Earlier "Apostrophe" reported that Germany provided Ukraine with a new package of military aid, including armoured vehicles, ammunition and various equipment.
