The destruction of the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant (TPP), located near Kyiv, may lead to the introduction of rolling blackouts in the capital.
This is stated in the article by Apostrophe.
The Trypillia TPP was completely destroyed as a result of a Russian massive missile attack on the night of April 11.
As for Kyiv's energy supply, the city will be supplied with electricity from two thermal power plants - CHPP-5 (the largest combined heat power plant in Ukraine with a capacity of 700 megawatts) and CHPP-6 (500 megawatts). However, power supply restrictions in the capital are still possible.
"There will be a general electricity shortage in the country. Our energy system is integral, so if there is a shortage, there may be restrictions in all regions, including Kyiv," Ivan Plachkov, former Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine, told Apostrophe. - "We need to prepare for this - rolling blackouts are not excluded".
In the winter of 2022-2023, Kyiv already experienced blackouts. "This is determined by the capabilities of not only generation, but also electricity transmission systems, meaning whether it is possible to organize flows. Some region may be in deficit, but if there is a surplus in the system as a whole, then it will be possible to transfer something to this region - then there will be no problems with blackouts," Andrian Prokip, Director of Energy Program at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, told the publication. - "If there is a shortage of both generation and the transmission system, then blackouts will be inevitable. Thus, the probability of blackouts in Kyiv has definitely increased."
Earlier, Apostrophe reported that the energy infrastructure in four regions of Ukraine was damaged due to massive Russian missile strikes.
